Winter Reading Challenge with the County Library.
Español

Welcome Educators!

As a Salt Lake County educator, we are asking you to encourage students and caregivers to sign up for the County Library’s Winter Reading Challenge.

Why?

Student participation in the Winter Reading program has many benefits, including social, mental, emotional, and physical development, knowledge retention, improved test scores, and increased interest in school subjects. Winter Reading provides opportunities for students to connect with the County Library during the school year; especially those who may not participate in our Summer Reading program due to lack of access to the library during the summer months.

Sign up your class as a group.

  • Contact your local County librarian, either through email, phone or visiting a branch.
  • Ask to sign up for Winter Reading as a group or classroom.
  • Be prepared with the name of your school, the average age of your students, and how many students are in your class.
  • As a class, set a goal for how many minutes you'll strive to read each day February 1-28, 2025.
  • Record your reading minutes for the whole classroom in the Beanstack app.
  • Discuss with your County librarian the best way to collect prize books for your class. You can arrange a field trip to the library or talk to the librarian about scheduling a class visit in your classroom.

Cost?

Like the materials below—and all County Library programs—the Winter Reading program is free of charge so no one is excluded for financial reasons.
