Local, national and international author events are often hosted by Salt Lake County Library. In fact, each year we host a Local Authors & You one-day event where aspiring writers have a chance to meet and work with local published authors as well as learn the tools of the trade. United We Read SLC
United We Read

United We Read SLC is an initiative for everyone in Salt Lake County to connect by reading the same book and by sharing their experience with others.

“A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Backman, the 2015 County Library’s Reader’s Choice winner, is the book selected for the 2017 United We Read SLC initiative. The following Salt Lake County libraries are participating:

Murray Library
Salt Lake City Public Library
Salt Lake County Library

Classes, events and activities related to the book will take place across the County through May 2017. Be sure to like the United We Read SLC Facebook page.

Author Dr. Karin Baumgartner

Learn about historic fairy tales – how to read them and their impact on modern culture – with Dr. Karin Baumgartner.  Dr. Baumgartner is a professor of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Utah and the author of multiple books and articles on the culture of romantic Germany. She regularly teaches the course, “From Grimm to Disney,” and introduces students to the mystery of the Brothers Grimm. Imagination is the only requirement at this classic author event.

Author Brandon Mull is visiting the County Library to celebrate the release of “Dragonwatch,” the long-awaited sequel to the Fablehaven series.

Exclusive to this tour is a new mini-play, “Dragon Lovers Anonymous”, starring Seth and Kendra – the main characters from “Fablehaven” and “Dragonwatch.”

Create a space at home, school, or your neighborhood County Library that pays tribute to dragons. Snap a picture and share it with the County Library on Facebook. Be sure to use #Dragonwatch on your post. Brandon will choose the winner, and they will receive an autographed copy of "Dragonwatch" at the event.
