In addition to traditional author visits, we regularly offer programs specific to writing. Programs are offered throughout the year at many library location including the annual Local Authors & You — a gathering where aspiring writers have the opportunity to meet and work with local published authors as well as learn the tools of the trade.

Local authors Chad Morris and Shelly Brown share their new book, "Mustaches for Maddie." Following the discussion, enjoy a book signing and a mustache-themed photo opportunity. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Local young adult fiction author Jennifer A. Nielsen kicks off Teen Reads Month at the Library’s Viridian Event Center on October 7. 
Following the discussion, the public is invited to enjoy a Q&A session and book signing. Books will be available for purchase at the event. This event is specifically for teens, but everyone is welcome to attend.

As part of the Utah Humanities Book Festival, local author, University of Utah professor and Utah Poet Laureate Paisley Rekdal shares her new book "The Broken Country: On Trauma, a Crime, and the Continuing Legacy of Vietnam." Following the discussion, enjoy a book signing and Q&A session. The County Library is pleased to host a spooktacular launch party for Finn Blackwood and his debut novel “The Relic Heir, Book 1: The Mark of the Witch.”

The party will include a book reading, book signing, witch and warlock costume contest, prize giveaways, and a Q&A session.

Craig Johnson

New York Times bestselling author Craig Johnson will regale us with tales of heroics, sign books and answer questions about his 12th and 13th Longmire novels, “An Obvious Fact” and “The Western Star.”

Johnson’s Longmire series is a popular crime drama on Netflix that was recently renewed for a sixth and final season. This author event is possible through a partnership with The King’s English Bookshop. “The Western Star” will be available for purchase at the event and online at

NaNoWriMo at the County Library

Interested in writing a novel? Now is the time to start!

November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), and the County Library is hosting prep workshops through the month of October and write-in sessions for adults and teens in November.

Local Authors & You
Local authors and you

More than 70 published authors will provide free writing workshops, book signings and discussions at the fourth-annual Local Authors & You event November 3-4 at the Library’s Viridian Event Center.

National Book Award finalist and local author Sara Zarr will kick off the event at a keynote and reception on Friday, November 3, at 7 pm. Reserve your place at the reception today!

On Saturday, aspiring writers will have the opportunity to learn from published adult, teen and children’s authors. Workshop topics include writing short stories, character development and independent and self-publishing.
