In addition to traditional author visits, we regularly offer programs specific to writing. Programs are offered throughout the year at many library location including the annual Local Authors & You — a gathering where aspiring writers have the opportunity to meet and work with local published authors as well as learn the tools of the trade.

Authors in the Round

Local authors are visiting various County Library locations all summer long and sharing their expertise as part of the second annual Authors in the Round.

May 23 through August 17, local authors representing multiple genres will present fifteen workshops and three panels on topics such as traditional versus digital publishing, writing and editing a first draft, world building and more.

Books will be available for purchase at all events.

Local Authors & You
Local Authors and You

The County Library is now accepting author applications for Local Authors & You on Saturday, November 4 from 1 to 5 pm with a keynote and reception Friday, November 3 at 7 pm. This event is an opportunity for local authors to connect with the community by teaching workshops, discussing craft, and signing books.

The application window will close September 1 or when 70 authors are accepted for the event. Apply today!

Tarbet will discuss “Dragon Moon” and the challenges of writing a techno-thriller. Q&A and book signing will follow the presentation. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Screenwriter Spanky Dustin Ward
Spanky Dustin Ward

Local screenwriter and 2017 Utah Film Award nominee Spanky Dustin Ward offers a free workshop in screenwriting basics. The workshop will cover: screenwriting software, elements of a script, screenwriting rules, character creation, dialogue, and developing your story ideas.

Local author Caryn Larrinaga shares her new book, “Superhero Syndrome.” Following the discussion, enjoy a book signing and superhero costume contest. Prizes include a free copy of “Superhero Syndrome” and an Amazon Fire tablet. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
