Seniors' Page

The Salt Lake County Library offers a number of services to meet the needs of our senior patrons.
  • Each spring, tax help, provided by the American Association of Retired Persons, is offered at several libraries within the system.
  • Books-on-cassette, books on CD and large print books are available at all libraries in addition to magnifying devices for in-house use.
  • Captioned videos and DVD's with subtitles in many languages are available to check out for one week.
  • We also offer TDD, a teletype service for the hearing impaired and a Mail-A-Book service for those who are unable to visit the library in person.

Utahealthnet
Is a statewide consumer health information infrastructure project sponsored by the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah.
The goal of Utahealthnet is to increase access to high quality health information, resources, services and programs in order to increase the quality of life for all Utah residents and visitors. The focus is on health information, services and support throughout the state which will serve Utah's health information seekers regardless of geographic location.

AARP Health Guide

A new health information service that provides reliable, easy-to-use information designed to help you take charge of your health.

All Refer Health
Health resource provides information and news on diseases and conditions.

Alzheimer's Association

Links to Alzhemer's research and support. It offers information, referral, safety services, education and support groups.

American Heart Association

National directory of resources related to heart health and disease. Resources include medical information and contacts.

American Medical Association

Links to consumer health information, info center, searchable database of more than 650,000 U.S. physicians

Healthopedia

A medical and health consumer information resource containing comprehensive and unbiased information in patient-friendly language from trusted sources on over 1,500 health topics , 70 focussed health centers , and more than 11,000 drugs and medications .

HealthSquare's Drug Information Center

Provides consumer information, including dosage, side effects, and warnings, for prescription medication.

Huntsman Cancer Institute

Access to current, reliable information on cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

Medicare

An official U.S. government site where people can comparison shop the plans and options of Medicare providers.

MyMedicare Matters
The MyMedicareMatters Web site is designed to help individuals learn more about the Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage.

MedicineNet

Content-rich commercial site --includes interactive groups, ask-the-doctor feature, medical dictionary, drug info, medical news and specific disease info

Medline Plus

MedlinePlus will direct you to information to help answer health questions. MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations.

RxList: The Internet Drug Index

Search by either brand or generic drug name,,,provides "patient information" for health consumers in addition to drug information for health care professionals. (also provides information about some herbs, homeopathics, Chinese herbs, and ayurvedics).
