  3. Timpanogos Storytelling Event @ Viridian 8/25/2014

7:00 PM to 8:30 PM - Viridian C & Amphitheater: Let two great storytellers, Clare Murphy and Donald Davis, entertain you at the library's Viridian Event Center as a warm-up to the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival later in the week.Clare Muireann Murphy is a contemporary storyteller and writer. Her repertoire of tales & shows includes myth, legend, folklore, fables, contemporary personal tales & original stories. She has a lively physical style and playful wit that endows the traditional tales with a sense of modern day relevance. Compared to raconteurs and solo performers, Clare uses the platform of story to create shows that are full of observational humour, social commentary, and epic journeys. Her vocal range and beautiful physicality makes her engaging for audiences of all ages. Donald Davis was born in a Southern Appalachian mountain world rich in stories. 'I didn't learn stories, I just absorbed them ,' he says as he recounts tales and more tales learned from a family of traditional storytellers who have lived on the same Western North Carolina land since 1781. Davis grew up hearing gentle fairy tales, simple and silly Jack tales, scary mountain lore, ancient Welsh and Scottish folktales, and-most importantly-nourishing true-to-life stories of his own neighbors and kin. For Donald, storytelling ',...is not what I do for a living...it is how I do all that I do while I am living.'
