  2. Halloween Movie Series 10/27/2014

7:00 PM to 9:00 PM - Viridian B: Free popcorn and scary movies on a 20’ screen. Prepare to get your pants scared off! CasperRating: PG | Runtime: 100 minBased on the popular cartoon character, this family-oriented 'ghost story' is about a not-so-scary spirit who bonds with a little girl (Christina Ricci). The eternally irritable Ms. Carrigan (Cathy Moriarty) discovers that the only thing she's been left in her recently departed father's will is a rickety old house in New England. Naturally, the woman is furious about this, until her 'close personal friend' and assistant, Dibbs (Eric Idle of Monty Python fame), discovers a secret message that a treasure may be concealed somewhere in the house. The two take off for Maine, only to learn that the house is haunted by Casper 'the friendly ghost' and his three ghostly uncles Stinky, Stretch, and Fatso. After futilely recruiting an exorcist (Don Novello, more or less reviving his Father Guido Sarducci character from Saturday Night Live) and a 'professional ghost exterminator' (Dan Aykroyd), she brings in a 'ghost psychiatrist' (Bill Pullman) and his daughter Kat (Ricci). Innocently attracted to the young girl, Casper befriends Kat as they try to save the ghosts' home from the evil Carrigan. Eye-popping special effects highlight this magical story that touches (albeit lightly) on the theme of what lies at the heart of human desires. Clint Eastwood, Rodney Dangerfield, Mel Gibson and The Crypt Keeper (of Tales from the Crypt) all make cameos as apparitions in the mirror Bill Pullman looks into in the house. They danced with the Stately Oaks Vintage Dancers and the Atlanta Baroque Dancers for many years performing 18th and 19th century dances throughout the Atlanta area. When they relocated to Utah in 2006 and couldn't find a vintage dance group they felt they needed to share the charm and appeal of the antique dancing with Utah and so created Old Glory Vintage Dancers in 2007. They have been very well received at many functions along the Wasatch front teaching and performing the 1700's,1800's & early 1900's dances at private and public functions dressed in their historical attire. They also offer monthly Vintage Dance Classes and host a number of their own galas throughout the year. Please visit them on Facebook or for more information.

7:00 PM to 9:00 PM - Viridian A, B, C & Amphitheater: Monika Jalili: Persian Songs of Love and Hope Singer, Monika Jalili, evokes a romantic, and at times, haunting sequence of emotions as she presents acoustic Iranian songs. She has dedicated considerable time and effort to preserving and paying tribute to the the work of Iranian composers whose careers were cut short by the Iranian revolution. The talented New York-born vocalist, originally trained in musical theater, shares her enchanting voice and love of Iranian poetry in a simple yet sincere presentation, which features songs in Persian, Azeri, English, and French. Jalili’s music incorporates traditional folk songs from several different regions in Iran, and has been described as a mixing of regional, microtonal Iranian music; Mediterranean sounds; and French romanticism. Many of her songs come from the period of great artistic exploration before the fall of the Shah. The library's Viridian Event Center and Excellence in the Community present the 'Excellence in the Community Concerts', free performances each month that feature local, high quality musicians of various styles and genres.
